It is recommended that you fast for 3 hours before the exam to ensure accurate measurements.
No contrast dye is injected.
The test is similar to a standard ultrasound, but it involves applying light pressure or a painless shock wave to measure tissue stiffness.
- The patient is lying on his or her back with the upper body exposed.
- A gel is applied to the skin over the liver.
- A special ultrasound probe emits mechanical waves that measure the liver’s elasticity.
